5 THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE GETTING EYELASH EXTENSIONS (or false lashes)

We all remember our first time like the first time I wore false lashes. Eyelash Extensions have transformed how I feel I am able to still feel fly even with just a pair of my favourite lashes on. I can easily go to the beach with the idea of getting a tan and as long as I have a pair of fake lashes on I am good to go. I enjoy having the choice of several different eyelashes so I have different ones for different events, each lash depends on the time of year, the special occasions, how I am dressing. If it’s a family gathering chances are I will wear thicker lashes, if it a work day it will be a subtle thinner lash and if its a party then I bring out the fluffiest pair of eyelash that is available and I fly all the way to disco town. Each pair of eyelash has a specific job but they all help to build my confidence.

Most classic lashes are semi-permanent, however you can get some lashes that last longer, it all depends on the lashes. You can go back to salons and get touch-ups, which i would recommend as it works out cheaper than when you get them done the first time around. There's so many different things you have to take into consideration before getting falsies. The first is do you want a full set? Do you want semi-permanent eyelash extensions? Do you want natural eyelashes, volume lashes, lash treatments, lash lift, top-ups, semi-permanent lashes (the strips), infills and then other questions like is it going to be one set or do you want a new set each couple of weeks. It's also important to know that your own lashes are just as important. Then if you want a strip do you want mink styles, do you want natural? There is so many questions when getting your eyelash extensions.

Now if you’re skeptical about wearing false eyelashes then listen up because there are a few things that you need to know before taking the plunge into eyelash heaven.

#1 Not all lashes are the same especially if you get them done professionally at a salon, this is because they use individual lashes, now with individual lashes they do look naturally better because they are individual lashes stuck next to your real lashes whereas strip lashes (the most common type of fake lashes) are stuck above your eyelash. However if you’re wanting individual lashes and for them to be done professionally always pick your salon carefully, check to see if the salon has social media and if they do check them out on there, look at their reviews see how good they are. You can get individual lashes on our website if you would like to take up the challenge. The false lashes stick to the real eyelash so always be careful when taking them out that you don’t rip out your real eyelashes.

#2 There are so many styles to choose from. Now if you’re like me and have used them quite a lot then you would know that you don’t have just one style, you tend to have 4 or 5 different styles. However even though there are hundreds of different styles of lashes it doesn’t mean that all the lashes are going to suit your eyes. Some people really suit fluffy eyelashes but some people fit the more spiky lashes. When I started out I chose the less is more options and I think that's a good way to go, especially if you have never worn lashes before. You don’t want to learn to run before you can walk and it’s the same with lashes, you wouldn’t want to put a thick fluffy pair of lashes on before getting used to a thinner pair, for two main reasons, one being you’re not used to seeing yourself in lashes, so you could buy a thick pair of lashes and think they look weird because you’re not used to them but if you start with thin lashes and then go thicker you will get used to them better. The second reason is because your eyes aren’t used to it, if you have never worn false lashes before your eyes won’t be used to the feeling and it could become irritable and could put you off lashes for life. It’s best if you start simple and then work your way up.

#3 It’s really addictive.. No seriously… Before I started wearing false lashes I was always told by my friends not to start because you won’t be able to leave the house without a pair of lashes on, and I thought to myself what are they on about? Now I know. I started with one harmless pair of lashes, one pair that I wanted to try for a night out and what a great mistake that was. I can’t go a day without wearing a pair of lashes as soon as I put them on I feel good and it’s only a pair of lashes. I know some people won’t get that feeling some people do just put lashes on so they get thicker lashes but my lashes make my outfit. You can tell what kind of mood I am in when I wear a pair of lashes and what I’m doing with my day. I find that Ardell is the best brand to use, there are so many options to choose from, that it takes longer to choose a lash than it does to put the lash on.

#4 Your skincare products may have to change. This is something I learned the hard way if you want to wear lashes an oily makeup removers are a NO GO, well only when you’re wearing lashes anyway. You can use oily makeup removers when you aren’t wearing fake lashes. Now with traditional face washes you can use but you need to go careful with around the eye area especially as if you get any of the product in your eye while still wearing a lash that is a casualty waiting to happen. It will be nearly impossible to wipe out products from your eyes without ruining the lash and when a lash is wet it is so hard to get that lash back to a good condition to use again. I have found through tough googling and trialling that micellar water followed by an exfoliating pad is the best bet for cleansing your skin while having minimal lash contact. I think the Caudalie Micellar Cleansing Water 200ml for £15.00 and the Radical Skincare Age Defying Exfoliating Pads 60 pads for £48.00 are the best products to use while still wearing false eyelashes.

#5 Your Natural lashes will suffer. Unfortunately there isn’t a way around this, I can’t tell you that using these certain products will make your lashes perfect and there won’t be any lasting effects of false lashes. Now even with the best quality extensions and using the best products to remove the lashes there is still the chance that your natural lash cycle will be shed from fake eyelashes. Now the only good thing to do when you notice that your eyelashes are looking a bit bear is to go back to the natural look. It’s always good to take a break so by taking a break from the false lashes it allows your natural lashes to grow and build stronger, you can always you use help from targeted lash products like a delilah Definitive Volumising and Defining Mascara- Carbon 7.5ml - £19.00. This allows you to still have lashes with volume but doesn’t affect the lashes themselves.

So have you decided whether or not your going to jump on the bandwagon and embrace the false eyelashes or are you still on the fence? Why don’t you try out some Ardell lashes? Why not try our Ardell Natural Lashes 108 Black - £2.87 perfect for beginners and don’t forget the lash glue Ardell Brush-On Strip Lash Adhesive Clear 5ml - £3.61 and if you have an allergies make sure to check the ingredients of the products you're using so you don't get an allergic reaction.
